Lukas is a Professor of Exercise- and Movement Science at the University of Basel. He received his PhD on “cellular muscle response to exercise training” from the University of Basel and was also highly involved in Swiss Olympic as coach for elite athletes. Since 1987 he is working at the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health of the University of Basel. Lukas launched and conducted several internationally recognized projects on the interrelation between children’s health and exercise (KISS-Study, Active Childhood, Ballabeina, Sportcheck). In his main line of research, he published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles on exercise-based health-promotion across lifespan and was committed to various book projects. His current major research interest from a translational perspective includes intergenerational exercise promotion on community and national level.
